Standard 7.  Engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community

7.1 Meet professional ethics and responsibilities

7.2 Comply with legislative, administrative and organisational requirements
I have met the professional ethical responsibilities by completing Work Health and Safety and Code of Ethics training on Plink. This means that I have full awareness of what my Health and Safety requirements are as well as what it means to be an employee of the Department of Education.

I comply with all legislative, administrative and organisational requirements by ensuring that my Working with Children Check and Responding to Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care is updated regularly. I also ensure that my First Aid certification is updated every three years for the full certificate but also that my CPR component is updated annually.

7.3 Engage with the parents/carers
Please see Standard 3.7 – Engage parents/carers in the educative process.

7.4 Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities
Please see Standard 6.2 – Engage in professional learning and improve practice for my involvement with SLASA.

I maintain contact with broader communities by volunteering with The Heights School Pedal Prix team as a rider and being on the committee. I provide insight to how the team is managed and assist with helping students into and out of the trikes. I have also provided assistance in maintaining the trikes and helping with scrutineering and marshalling duties during race day. I provide insight to DfE requirements as well as a sounding board for working with and around complex students. I have also been instrumental in the creation of a Pedal Prix-based database of volunteer requirements and ensuring that volunteers coming to the races or have contact with students have the appropriate checks and clearances.

I have also highlighted in a presentation to the Pedal Prix committee how Pedal Prix aligns to various areas of the Australian Curriculum; using my skills as a teacher to be able to benefit the wider community and team that I am heavily involved in.
