We're now 2 weeks into Semester 2 and while I'm not teaching Year 9 Geography this semester, I'm sharing my class with a colleague who is. Rather than my resources gathering dust, I popped them up for use in their classes. The amount of students, in my classes at least, who are surprised by the maps showing roads, railways etc is amazing. One of the many reasons why I love what I do.

 Another term, another display up! I popped in during the holidays for one day this time (normally, I try to do 2-3 days to smash out some work - AKA photocopying - without the students there) and I used it to swap over a display, file some paperwork, and set up a seating plan for my Year 10 English class. It wasn't much (in the scheme of what I usually try to achieve) but I'm happy with what I did do.
 Year 9 Food reviews meant trying different snacks! I modelled the process in front of the students as they did it (trying to stop them from eating the snacks was not on my teaching Bingo card that day!) and it went off with a bang. They all enjoyed it and some of the reviews were pretty good and others were "Mars Bars are trash. I won't eat them."
It was a great end of day fun treat during Week 10 but they were incredibly disappointed to know that I wasn't going to put off the assignment until next term.  Our final unit for Term 1, in Year 9 History, is up! This one is Movement of Peoples and is honestly, not a unit that I've really gotten into teaching until now. It hasn't been one of my strongest ones so I made it a priority this year to do it justice.
 I would almost consider this a step up from the graphic novel, considering it is definitely text-heavy more than the graphic novel is but it is still easily accessible for kids. I'm not using this one for English this year but it's still a great help for me to wrap my head around the intricacies of Dracula. Now, to read the third (and final!) version!
 Dracula novel number 1 and the one that I'm focussing on with my 9 English class. I've never read Dracula until now, but it was a good read. The pictures brought it all to life, and I can't wait to teach it next term!
On to reading the next version I have!  With the term starting, prep has begun for my semester 1 classes. I'm really looking forward to all of them as I lit a bomb under the Year 9 History curriculum and re-did it over the break. As a team, we've re-done the majority of the Year 9 English curriculum, and I'm excited to get back to Year 10 English. Year 10 History is a subject I'm enjoying immensely, so I'm excited to be back in it.
With my (much loved) Year 12s graduating last year, it's a new cohort for Home Group, and I'm rather glad I'm staying in the senior years. I can't wait to see what this semester has to offer! What started as two of us getting sick of being asked "is Hitler part of WW1?" and various other questions (and repeating the outline several times) turned into me creating subject posters for each of the subjects that we either teach, have the potential to teach, or currently teach. They took a while and did end up on the back burner while Stage 2 Media Studies was wrapped up but I am so glad that they are finally done! ** Post will be updated with the PDF's.
