I've done EALD LEAP Levelling for the last few years, however, I have moved m training a little bit and now completed my EALD LEAP Train the Trainer course. This was a one day course at the Education Development Centre in Hindmarsh, and it was a long, long day. There is a lot covered within it and it and a lot of it was a well needed refresher!
I was also able to identify various aspects of the Functional Literacy that we were going over, that we would need to create displays on to enhance our learners chances of success. To be honest thought, the displays are the last thing on my to-do list ... that one just keeps growing!

One of my favourite excursions is the Year 11 Geography Field Study! After some behind-the-scenes stress, it led to a fantastic day. I drove the 12-seater van for the first time and thankfully it didn't try to rain like last year, nor was it inredibly windy like this years Year 10 Field Study. Now to get their field study reports in! This was my first experience at a large scale SACE forum, and it was fantastic to be able to work with fellow Media Studies teachers to start to map out our journey to subject renewal. Another one done and dusted! I love helping out where I can for the Arts Showcase and it was great to be able to see my Year 12s perform for one of their last performances before graduation!
*faces covered to protect privacy.* More displays are up! I moved a poster to make way for the Harvard Referencing displays and put the Persuasive Writing Techniques up. I added the tourism posters for Year 10 Geography, not happy with the colour difference in the blue ones but I can't be bothered re-printing and Laminating them. I did - finally - get the Megacities posters up for Stage 1 Geography.
A common misconception is that I make all of my displays. Yes, some of them I make but I honestly don't make all of them. I got some of them from Miss Keys Classroom on TPT and others from colleagues at my site. One of my favourite parts of teaching Year 10 Geography is the Hallett Cove and Glenelg Field Study. This is the third time I've gone on this Field Study and I learn something new everytime. This year, I had the new challenge of the wind. It was so windy but luckily there wasn't any loose sand, which made it a lot easier to bear! This is definitely a big reason why I ask to teach Year 10 Geography each year. ![]() Wear it Purple Day is an important day to show allyship to the LGBTQIA+ community. I always let the students running our celebrations put glitter on my face and when I said that they could have free reign on the type of glitter (e.g. size and shade of purple), the unholy glee on the Year 7s faces was amazing. ![]() Can this be counted as professional reading? No? Bugger, it should be. From sharing stories about accomodations for students and having a national curriculum with state variants to those students who drive you batty but you can't help but form connections with and love; it has it all. It is also a great insight to the life and workload of a teacher. Gabbie is a "recovering" primary teacher ("recovering" being her words not mine) but the workload and points about education that she discusses are just as relevant to secondary teachers. Definitely a book well worth reading. Now to get her other book ... ![]() When I opened the email, I couldn't believe it. I've been teaching Media Studies for the first time this year (at Stage 2 nonetheless!) and decided to throw my hat in the ring for the SACE Subject Renewal Group for Media Studies as my number one and Geography as a back up. Well, I didn't get Geography but I did get Media Studies! I can't wait to work with colleagues at other sites (both public and private sector) and look at how Media Studies can be improved and what changes can/should be enacted. I'm also looking forward to trialling new curriculum as we see where Subject Renewal process takes us! |
